St. Patrick’s Day Centerpiece: Paper Shamrocks
Turn a simple houseplant into a fun St. Patrick’s Day centerpiece for your table. This project is an easy and inexpensive way to decorate for the holiday. We made ours by using things we mostly already had around the house. The cute little ivy plant is one I had bought for my mom as a gift, and we decided it would be a fun way to dress it up a little. And the gold coin chocolates really add some shine, but I must admit, those didn’t last too long!!
- Scrapbooking paper (green & gold)
- Floral wire
- Green ribbon
- Puffy/3D paint (gold)
- Wire cutters
- Hot glue gun or Elmer’s glue
- Scissors
- Houseplant in green pot
- Optional: Gold coin candy
- Shamrock template
Print and cut out the shamrock template.
Trace and cut out the shamrocks from a variety of green scrapbooking paper or construction paper.
Cut your floral wire in different lengths and then glue them to the back of the shamrocks. See photo A.
Decide if you want double or single layered shamrocks. If you want double shamrocks like we show in photo B, then use the next smaller size of shamrock for the center. Before gluing, crease each petal to give it some dimension.
Now simply put a little dab of glue in just the center. You can now stick them into your houseplant.
To turn your flower pot into a leprechaun hat, you first measure and cut a piece of ribbon to go underneath the rim of the pot. You could use two pieces of different sized ribbon or you could use scrapbooking paper and ribbon like we did. Then using the square buckle template, cut out a buckle from gold paper and glue it into place on the ribbon band.
To give the buckle some sparkle, outline it in gold puffy paint. See photo C.
