national nonwovens

Our felt of choice is made by the US company, National Nonwovens. They produce several types of felt, and we prefer their two wool felt blends. One is a 35% wool / 65% rayon blend (TOY002), and the other is a 20% wool / 80% rayon blend (WCF001). Both of these blends feel very similar, and we recommend colors from both types in our patterns. Both blends are very high quality and we really like using them. In fact, they are the only brand of felt you will see recommended in our patterns. For more information about the colors and types that they offer, check out their website (see link above). To purchase this felt, see the suppliers we list below.

Our Two Favorite Felt Suppliers:

Commonwealth Felt:
We purchase a lot of our felt online from this supplier. They have very fast and reliable service. Commonwealth felt is the retail store that is run by National Nonwovens, since National Nonwovens does not sell their felt directly from their website.

Prairie Point Junction – Wool Felt Central:
This supplier also carries National Nonwovens’ felt and we purchase a lot of our felt from this online supplier as well. We absolutely love their super fast shipping and our orders usually arrive in just a few days. We also recommend this supplier in all of our sewing patterns as a great place to order your felt.

DMC, embroidery floss

DMC Embroidery Floss is a high quality floss that we’ve never been disappointed in. We’ve tried cheaper brands, but never again! On cheaper “off” brands, the strands have sometimes been stuck together and would not separate properly. They also seem to lack the slight glossiness of DMC floss. So we will never buy anything other than DMC again. DMC is the most common brand, and you can find it at most major craft and sewing stores.

felt glue

Beacon Felt Glue is the type of glue we’ve used in some of our felt projects. We’ve used it several times and it’s always worked great for us. While we typically avoid gluing felt if we can (we prefer to sew things together whenever possible), some projects simply require glue to be used. And if that’s the case, it’s best not to use regular all purpose glue (like Elmer’s) if you can help it, because it’s more likely to soak into your felt and cause it to harden. Felt glue, on the other hand, has a more tacky consistency, and while it will still make the felt feel hard once dry, it doesn’t soak into the felt the same way a thinner glue would. This particular brand of felt glue should be fairly common, and easy to find in most craft stores.
